Weeksville, New York-  was a nineteenth century free black community located in what is now the Bedford-Stuyvesant area of Brooklyn, New York. It is remembered today as a historic site for its community programs, urban employment opportunities, and the promotion of racial respectability.

Mound Bayou, Mississippi - from its beginnings in a lonely swamp, this small town in the Mississippi Delta grew into a bustling community of black-owned businesses and successful farms by 1900.

Rosewood, Florida- by 1900 the town of Rosewood was a quiet, primarily black, self-sufficient whistle stop on the Seaboard Air Line Railway.

Allensworth, California - established by Allen Allensworth in 1908, the town was the first in California to be founded, financed, and governed by African-Americans.
